Fraser Island Great Walk

On Sunday I completed the Fraser Island Great Walk for the 2nd time.
80km walk in under 35hrs (over 2 days – 38km & 42km full marathon 2nd day).
YAY Team, We’ve set the Benchmark!

What an Amazing Adventure with some Awesome, Fun & Fit Ladies (Tash who has done the Great Walk with me before, Nat, Jas & Annette) and Sensational Support Crew (Greg & Gary)! Thank you to everyone involved, these goals and adventures are a massive combined team effort to pull off!

There was no complaining, only the odd ‘EW’ & ‘Arrgh’ sounds I would make every time a leech had to be pulled from my feet, kindly by Nat!

The Giant Santinay tree pictured here is over 1,000 years old and not accessible by car.

“The forests of Fraser Island were logged from 1863 to 1991. The overall canopy of the forests is higher than occurs on any dune system in the world.”

That clocks me off at 836km on foot on Fraser Island to date! Can’t wait to do it again!

The man who fought to save Fraser Island to become a doctor. Conservationist John Sinclair had a favourite quote to use when he battled sand miners to save Fraser Island and have the pristine island added to the World Heritage List in 1992. “I used to say, ‘If you are going to scratch 1 per cent of the Mona Lisa, which 1 per cent are you going to scratch’?” Full Story HERE. Images HERE
