ANZAC Day in Hervey Bay

Anzac Day makes me so proud to be an Aussie.

Thousands came down to Freedom Park in Pialba to watch the main march that I participated in this year wearing my late grandfather’s medals.

His name was Stan McCarthy and he was in the army transport corp. during WWII 1942-1946 and served in Moratai, Cape York, Darwin & Borneo.

Corporal Norman Saunders (pictured with me here) was also in WWII and served 1940-1945. I was chatting to 87 year old Norman after the ANZAC Day march. He served in Darwin, Moratai, Borneo & New Guinea.

The medals on his right belong to his brother Earald Nilsen who lost his life in the Vietnam war.

He was in M Special Forces and 2nd 4th AGH (Australian General Hospital).
He was in the army in Darwin in the artillery section but when the Japanese started bombing he was retrained in a town outside of Melbourne and then sent to New Guinea where he was a nurse. He said he always wanted to be a doctor and pretty much performed the role of one during the war just didn’t have the title on paper.

It was an honor to chat with Norman and a very proud day in Hervey Bay.

Anzac Day makes me PROUD!

ANZAC was the name given to the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps soldiers who landed on the Gallipoli Peninsula in Turkey early on the morning of 25 April 1915 during the First World War (1914-1918).

As a result, one day in the year has involved the whole of Australia in solemn ceremonies of remembrance, gratitude and national pride for all our men and women who have fought and died in all wars. That day is ANZAC Day – 25 April.

Every nation must, sooner or later, come for the first time to a supreme test of quality; and the result of that test will hearten or dishearten those who come afterwards. For the fledgling nation of Australia that first supreme test was at Gallipoli.

No Pain – No Gain or am I completely Insane!

Today I officially started BOOTCAMP in the mornings at 5.30am.

Beachfit Bootcamp – No Excuses!
It’s time for a real change. To commit to doing whatever it takes to get fit. If it’s the rewards for hard work and real results you desire from training then join Bootcamp, the military inspired health and fitness program designed to whip you into shape in just 4 weeks.

Oh my Lordy, I am so unfit.
I sprinted, jogged, crawled & wriggled through sand, did sit ups, push ups, burpies plus heaps more till I was completely exhausted and felt like vomiting!
I wasn’t able to physically keep up with a few exercises so my buddy / partner got in trouble and punished for my exhaustion / slackness with a long run! I didn’t follow an instruction properly and wait for the command so everyone had to do push ups! I stopped to look at the beautiful sunrise when the instructor commented on it, yep in trouble again!!!
I better get it together, focus and dig deep within or I will not be well liked! (Though really, everyone is very supportive!)
It’s so frustrating to try your absolute hardest and just not physically have the energy or am I just not trying hard enough, it sure felt like it.
Once you do have the energy you are pushed harder and faster so there is absolutely no slacking off, no matter how long you have been doing Bootcamp or how fit you are.

When I got home I had a shower and went back to sleep for an hour!
I’ll do another report at the end of the 4 week course with hopefully some positive results!

I’m in so much pain, tomorrows session will be horrendous!

Note to self:
No Pain – No gain, No Pain – No gain, No Pain – No gain………..
(You sure you’re not completely insane!)

The Dalai Lama’s Instructions for Life

The Biggest Loser Club Shakes

Available from Coles and Woolworths supermarkets nationally!

One Reality TV show I enjoy watching is The Biggest Loser as I love to see people find themselves physically and emotionally while being taught effective ways to control their lives. On the show I thought it was fantastic that the contestants were taught about healthy food groups, meal portion sizes, calorie intake and maintaining a controlled balanced diet.

I was disappointed to see The Biggest Loser’s latest marketing campaign now advertising meal replacement shakes. I have heard of people who lose a lot of weight rapidly with all different brands of these shakes only to regain the weight and more, due to not knowing how to control their food and calorie intake once they reach their goal weight and stop taking the shakes.

A Double Choc Flavour Shake – per 55g sachet (255g prepared as directed) contains 209.6 calories.

Chicken with garlic & lemon – contains 180 calories

I know which I would prefer to digest, find more filling and has less calories.

Like most things, I guess in the end it all comes down to revenue.

Healthy Living Tip
To reduce your body weight by half a kilogram per week you need to cut 2000 kilojoules (500 Calories) a day from your current food intake or burn up another 500 calories a day in exercise. Note: 1 kilojoule (kJ) = 4.2 Calories
